Our Wedding Music Guide

When you choose One Night Only to handle the music affairs for your wedding, you can relax a bit, knowing that you will have an experienced, reliable, fun and friendly DJ, who is guaranteed to keep you and your guests on the dance floor!

You should start thinking about the music that you would like on your special day. Couples often choose certain tracks to complement some of the ‘formalities’ outlined below. You don’t need to stick to everything – this is purely a rough guide to help you through the thought process.

Ceremony

What kind of background music would you like while people are arriving and taking their seats? You should also consider specific tracks for the following events:

  • Bridal party procession (family, bridesmaids, etc)
  • Bridal procession
  • Signing of the register
  • Couple recession
  • Confetti

Canapés and Drinks

What kind of music would you like while your guests are mingling? Are there any specific genres or artists that you feel will suit your theme and yourselves?

Reception

What kind of music would you like during dinner? And what music do you want for the dancing? A list of DEFINITE PLAYS (or your favourites) is always useful, as is a list of DEFINITE NO-NOS!
Also, consider tracks for all, or some of, the following:

  • Couple’s entrance to reception
  • Cutting of the cake
  • First dance
  • Dance with the father
  • Second song
  • Garter toss
  • Bouquet toss
  • Closing or couple’s exit

General Comments

If you don’t want to spend much time thinking about music in the ‘general’ sense, you can leave much of it in our capable hands.

For example, you can let us choose the background ceremony, canapé, dinner, and dancefloor music, and concentrate only on some of the specific tracks numbered above.

In our experience, we would suggest a few things to reduce the number of ‘formalities’, and improve the day’s flow:

  • The cutting of the cake can be combined either with the first dance, or the couple’s entrance
  • The bride’s dance with her father may also be left out (usually people are itching to get onto the dance floor immediately after the opening dance)
  • The garter and bouquet toss are usually done late in the evening, and follow one another
  • The bridal party and bridal processions can be combined
  • Sometimes the signing of the register is done after the ceremony, while guests are on their way to canapés

We trust that this guide will be useful. Have fun choosing your music, and let us know if we can help in any way!
